The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has released notification for recruitment of Group 'A' Indian Economic Service (IES) and Indian Statistical Service (ISS) Officers through IES/ISS Exam 2025. Here in this blog, I have explained all the details related to this recruitment notification.

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION:
A. For Indian Economic Service (IES):
Post-Graduate Degree in Economics/Applied Economics/Business Economics/Econometrics from a UGC recognised University.
B. For Indian Statistical Service (ISS):
(i) Bachelor's Degree with Statistics/Mathematical Statistics/Applied Statistics as one of the subjects; OR,
(ii) Master's degree in Statistics/Mathematical Statistics/Applied Statistics from a UGC recognised university.
NOTE: Final year/appearing students are also eligible to apply, but they will have to provide the details of passing the examination in Detailed Application Form (DAF) before the Interview Stage.
AGE LIMIT (as on 01/08/2025):
• Minimum: 21 years
• Maximum: 30 years
• Age relaxation in the Upper Age Limit will be provided to:
(i) OBC-NCL: 03 years
(ii) SC/ST: 05 years
(iii) Physically Handicapped: 10 years
(iv) Defence Services Personnel, disabled in operations during hostilities: 03 years
(v) Ex-servicemen including Commissioned Officers and Emergency Commissioned Officers (ECOs)/Short Service Commissioned Officers (SSCOs) who have rendered at least five years Military Service: 05 years
JOB PROFILE OF INDIAN ECONOMIC SERVICE (IES) OFFICERS:
1. Perform the role of economic advisor.
2. Analyse economic data.
3. Conduct research and provide expert advice to the government on budgetary matters.
4. Formulating and implementing economic policies.
5. Provide the Ministries/Departments with inputs on all policy-related matters, and their economic implications.
6. Monitor and evaluate various policy parameters from economic perspectives.
7. Assist the Ministry of Finance in preparing annual or any other periodical statement.
JOB PROFILE OF INDIAN STATISTICAL SERVICE (ISS) OFFICERS:
1. Ensuring statistical administration, statistical planning & advice.
2. Formulation, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of development policy and programmes.
3. Compilation of different kinds of statistics and formulation/monitoring/evaluation of different schemes in various government Ministries/Departments.
4. Producing weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual outputs, using a range of statistical data via reports and visual aids.
5. Interpreting statistical analysis for policy development, evaluation/monitoring, forecasting, and National Statistics.
6. Developing statistical tools for future data collection.
7. Compilation of estimates/indicators related to Gross Domestic Product (GDP), National Income, Inflation based on various indicators.
SALARY:
• Pay Level: level-10
• Pay Band: 15600-39100
• Grade Pay: 5400
• Basic Pay: ₹56,100
• Dearness Allowance: 53%
• House Rent Allowance: 30% (for X-city)
• Travelling Allowance: ₹7200 + DA (53%)
• Deductions: NPS, Income Tax, Professional Tax, etc.
• Gross Salary: ₹1,15,000 approx.
• NET (In-hand) Salary: ₹98,250 approx.
SELECTION PROCESS:
• Selection to the service will be done in two stages:
1. Written Examination.
2. Viva-Voce/Interview.
WRITTEN EXAMINATION:
A. For Indian Economic Service (IES):
It will have the following papers:
1. General English: 100 marks
2. General Studies: 100 marks
3. General Economics-I: 200 marks
4. General Economics-II: 200 marks
5. General Economics-III: 200 marks
6. Indian Economics: 200 marks
• TOTAL: 1000 marks
• All papers will be Descriptive Type.
• Each paper will be of 3 hours duration.
• The papers on General English and General Studies are common to both Indian Economic Service and Indian Statistical Service.
B. For Indian Statistical Service (ISS):
It will have the following papers:
1. General English: 100 marks
2. General Studies: 100 marks
3. Statistics-I: 200 marks
4. Statistics-II: 200 marks
5. Statistics-III: 200 marks
6. Statistics-IV: 200 marks
• TOTAL: 1000 marks
• Statistics-I and Statistics-II are Objective (MCQ) Papers (80 questions of 200 marks).
• Rest all papers will be Descriptive Type.
• Objective Papers are of 2 hours duration.
• Descriptive papers are of 3 hours duration.
VIVA-VOCE/INTERVIEW:
• Candidates who obtain minimum qualifying marks in Written Examination (as decided by UPSC), will be called for the Interview.
• In this stage, your personality is tested, whether you are fit for the service or not.
• It is also intended to supplement the written examination for testing the general and specialised knowledge and abilities of the candidate.
• TOTAL Marks of Interview: 200 marks.
FINAL SELECTION:
• Candidates who qualified both stages, will be included in the qualified candidates list.
• Now merit list will be prepared on the basis of marks scored in both stages.
• Total Merit: 1000 + 200 = 1200 marks
• Candidates higher in merit, will be selected for the service.
