The Supreme Court of India (SCI), which is the apex judiciary body of India, has released notification for recruitment of Law Clerk Cum Research Associates for the assignment term 2025-2026. Here in this blog, I have explained all the necessary details of this notification.

VACANCIES:
• A total of 90 posts have been advertised.
• Since, it's a contractual job (or assignment), so all these posts are open for all candidates, and there might not be any reservation.

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION:
(i) Bachelor Degree in Law (LLB) from Any Recognized University in India; AND,
(ii) Must have research and analytical skills, writing abilities, and knowledge of computers, including retrieval of desired information from various search engines/processes such as e-SCR, Manupatra, SCC Online, LexisNexis, Westlaw etc.

NOTE: Candidates in Fifth year of the Five-Year Integrated Law Course, OR, in Third year of the Three-Year Law Course after graduation are also eligible to apply. But they must have to show the proof of acquiring Law qualification before taking up the assignment as Law Clerk-cum-Research Associate.

AGE LIMIT (as on 07/02/2025):
Minimum: 20 years
Maximum: 32 years

EMOLUMENTS & SERVICE CONDITION:
• Monthly Consolidated Pay: ₹80,000
• Tenure of Engagement: 2025-26 (01 year)
• If a candidate gets an extension in tenure as Law Clerk, he/she will recieve a monthly consolidated pay of ₹90,000 in that extended term.
• A Law Clerk will not accept any other assignment during their assignment term as Law Clerk.
• They shall not practise as an Advocate in any Court of Law during the course of their assignment term as Law Clerks.

SELECTION PROCESS:
Selection Process will be conducted in three stages:
1. Part-I: Multiple Choice Based Questions: Testing the candidates’ ability to understand and apply the law, and comprehension skills
2. Part-II: Subjective Written Examination: Testing candidates' writing and analytical skills
3. Part-III: Interview: Testing candidates' behaviour/personality.

• Part-I and Part-II will be conducted on the same day, in two sessions.
• Part-I will be OMR Based or CBT.
• Part-II will be in Pen and Paper mode.

1. PART-I: MULTIPLE CHOICE BASED QUESTIONS:
It will contain questions from the following:
(i) English Comprehension
(ii) Analytical Questions (ability to understand and apply law)
(iii) Recent developments in law and jurisprudence (in the last one year)

• Each question is of 1 mark
• Total: 100 marks
• Time: 2.5 hours (150 minutes)
• Negative Marking: One-fourth (-0.25 marks)
• Minimum qualifying marks: 40%

2. PART-II: SUBJECTIVE WRITTEN EXAMINATION:
It will contain the following questions:
(i) Question 1 - Brief Preparation: Prepare a brief synopsis or precis of a case file in not more than 750 words (150 marks).
(ii) Question 2 - Preparation of a draft research memo: Formulate a draft reasoned memo in not more than 500-750 words (75 marks).
(iii) Question 3 - Analytical Question: Answer one out of 5 analytical questions in 350-500 words (75 marks).

• Total: 300 marks
• Time: 3.5 hours (210 minutes)
• Minimum qualifying marks: 50%

3. PART-III: INTERVIEW:
• The candidates qualifying for the interview would be asked to submit a preference list of the Judges’ offices in a sequence of their choice under whom they intend to work.
• Interview will be of 150 marks
• Minimum qualifying marks: 50%
